Turquoise is just like a comfort blanket.  We have had such a bumpy ride through this year and long for some semblance of ‘normality’, sometimes we just want to curl up and feel wrapped up in love, security and protection.

Protection, that word again!  Turquoise is the classic protection stone.  It is one of the oldest crystals known to man and was often used in ancient Egypt.  It is a great crystal for right now as the energies are very high at the moment and we are seeing much division in our society and so protection is more important now than ever.

Energy in Medicine

Let me remind you what protection actually means.  We are surrounded by other people’s thoughts; let’s call them thoughtforms.  These thoughtforms can be both good and not so good.  We all have a mix of these good and not so good thoughts within us.  We live in a world of duality, and so we have the light within us but also the shadow.  Let’s use anger as an example.  There is a lot of anger around at the moment on a collective level.  Which camp are you in, this one or that one?  But where is the balance in all of this?

Wherever you stand, do you want another’s anger invading your space?  This can translate with you feeling angry, but you’re not sure what you’re angry about and seems to be there for no reason.  I’m sure the answer is no, which is where turquoise comes in.  When we work with turquoise, it can envelope us in a protective shield, similar to the feeling of having a comforting blanket wrapped around us.  This protective shield will help us keep any anger that does not belong to us, away from us.

It will also keep any negative emotions we may hold within us away from other people.  When we realise that our emotions can affect not only people within touching distance, but can also go out into our towns, cities and beyond, we understand the importance of keeping our own stuff within ourselves.  However, we can always strive to transmute the shadow, and this is where healing comes in.

By having a crystal healing session, you will be less stressed, more relaxed and more peaceful within your being.  You will feel less ruffled, less irritated; you will feel stronger and find it much easier to cope with day to day events.  By continuing to work with crystals and having crystal healing, stress becomes a thing of the past.

Interesting Facts

Turquoise is often crushed and then put back together.  Also some unscrupulous merchants will dye howlite blue in an attempt to pass it off as turquoise.

It has often been made into amulets in the past and is fashioned into jewellery today.

The name turquoise does not in fact come from its colour but is due to ancient trade routes from Persia through Turkey, and merchants would often buy it in Turkish bazaars.  So, the name comes from its association with Turkey.  In fact the colour turquoise was named after the turquoise crystal.

The Navajo native American would throw a small turquoise stone into a river praying to the rain god for much needed rain.  While the Apaches believed turquoise was able to improve the precision of their weapons.
